Three Ways to Kick Naughty Foods to the Curb

October 10, 2014

Unhealthy foods used to be a part of my everyday life, but now I have kicked them to the curb! Nights ordering takeout with Ozzy have been replaced with Atkins frozen meals or Atkins-friendly dinners. Changes like these don't happen overnight, especially when you're drawn to comfort foods like I am! Here are some tips that have helped me make healthy choices and stay away from the naughty foods:

1. Get rid of the junk. You can't be tempted by unhealthy foods if you don't have them in your home. When I first started Atkins, I got rid of EVERYTHING! Clean out your cupboards and toss the sweets and indulgent foods you think you might cheat with.

2. Make a healthy swap. Before I started Atkins, I would tell myself "you can have 1 cookie or sweet" after every meal...but it would never just be 1. If I was craving something sweet after a meal, I taught myself to reach for half an Atkins bar instead. Now, I hardly crave anything after a meal. And if I ever do, I will grab some fresh berries and whipped cream for a healthy dessert!

3. Replace comfort foods with a comforting activity. I don't know about you, but when I'm stressed, tired, or sad I crave rich comfort foods. The key to keep from slipping into these temptations when you're most vulnerable is to find something else to do to make you feel better instead of that piece of cake. For me, I'll take Bella for a walk or play with my new puppies or get on the phone to a friend. They bring me such joy!

What about you? What has worked for you when it comes to fighting tempting foods? Tell me everything!

All My Love,

Sharon
